Francesco Lanera's Euz II (Ita), with Paolo Cian at the helm, Paolo Bucciarelli on sheets, Paolo Montefusco on tactics, and Roberto Santomanco on the bow, won the world title at the Platu 25 World Championship, which recently concluded in Athens. With participation from three continents and nine nations, the event perfectly met the requirements for the title. The enormous commitment of the Sailing 78 Club, and in particular Stelios Noutos and his wonderful team, ensured magnificent hospitality and flawless racing. Numerous generous sponsors participated, making the event possible, as well as the lavish crew parties. The team of judges and measurers worked tirelessly to ensure flawless racing and the uniformity of the boats, thus achieving a perfect one-design, the finest expression of our sport. The backdrop of Athens, with the Acropolis and the Parthenon in the background, was spectacular. The weather conditions were always clear and, until Saturday, with winds oscillating up to 8 knots, to conclude with a beautiful and hard-fought medal race up to 20 knots. Continuing in the rankings, second place overall was taken by Fandango (Ita) by Marco Angiolini (AVSenigallia), helmsman, with Pietro Corbucci on tactics, Enrico Clementi on sheets, Luca Martinelli pit and Filippo Scirocchi at the bow. Third place went to Bonaventura (Ita) by Edoardo Barni (tactics) and Domenico Tulli (tailer), both of the Rctveremo, with Uberto Crivelli at the helm, Martino Maria Acker at the bow, pit …… The under 24 title was won by the Sicilian boys of Akkura (Ita) provided by Fabio Tulone, with Giovanni Sanfilippo (SSD Palermo sport) at the helm, Claudio De Fontes on tactics, Valerio Toscano on tailer, Giulio La Franca pit, and Federico Benfante bowman. Corinthian: Fandango first, Manu', managed by the Malaysian crew, in the presence of the commodore of the Malaysian Navy, second. And third, once again, the Sicilian boys from Akkura. The Mixed classification (Women and Men) sees: first in the rankings Oceanida 1 of Stelios Noutos, second place Oceanida of Chrysa Marinou, and third place Oceanida of George Apostolou.
FRANCESCO LANERA'S EUZ II once again won the Italian Platu 25 Class Championship, which took place from September 17 to 20, 2020, in the splendid location of Anzio. The passion and enthusiasm of the participants were rewarded with four splendid and sunny days of extremely technical and fun sailing. The well-deserved victory was achieved by Francesco Lanera's (CV Bari) EUZ II VILLA SCHINOSA and his multi-titled crew: Roberto Santomanco in the bow; Paolo Bucciarelli, Tailer; Paolo Montefusco, Tactics; and Corrado Capece Minutolo at the Helm. Next up was the talented Tuscan crew of Matteo Ridi's HURRÀ (YC Montecatini), second overall and first in the Corinthian category. An excellent third overall was achieved by Ferdinando Dandini's (RCCTR) DI NUOVO SIMPATIA from Rome, thanks to their consistent results and a fine first place finish in the final race in strong winds. In the Corinthian Classification, first place went to HURRA', followed by NANNARELLA, from the team of friendly Pescara owners coordinated by Emanuele De Martinis Terra (CV Ventoforte), and third place went to Domenico Tulli's team of Bonaventura (RCCTR). NANNARELLA once again took first place in the "Helmsman/Owner" classification, followed by ASTRAGALO (CVR), helmed by Alberto Cappiello, and URSA MINOR, helmed by Lorenzo Bertini (Club Nautico Senigallia). The Race Committee, led by Mario de Grenet, expertly managed the nine races of the first three days, held in a local, light SW wind, as well as the final two races, held on the final day, Sunday, in sirocco winds with gusts of up to 18 knots in the final race, winning all 11 scheduled races. Everyone, from the participants to the judges and the organizers, expressed great satisfaction, especially with the magnificent and entertaining dinner offered on the beautiful terrace of the RCC Tevere Remo. Special congratulations also went to the resourcefulness of the Italian Platu 25 Class, who managed to get into the water to award the Italian title again this year, despite the challenging COVID-19 situation. RCC Tevere Remo President Daniele Masala thanked the competitors, judges, and staff for their hard work, which allowed the event to run smoothly and uphold the reputation of the Reale Circolo Canottieri Tevere Remo, thanks also to the excellent collaboration of the local clubs.
